$How much are Illinoisans paying for illegal aliens?$
State Sen. Chris Lauzen (R-25th), the only senator to vote last spring against instate tuition for illegal aliens and who gave a powerful speech Nov. 6 opposing drivers licenses for illegals, also wants to know the answer to this question.
Sen. Lauzen in February 2003 introduced (SB1450) calling for a study to determine how much the state is spending on services for illegal aliens. To date, he has NO cosponsors for the legislation.. All Illinois taxpayers are paying for this, and we demand that our legislators in Springfield make this information public. Please support Mr. Lauzen and ask YOUR senator to cosponsor SB1450.
New information is long overdue. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar's office reported in 1994 that the state was spending $153.4 million on services for illegal aliens alone. At that time it was estimated that the illegal alien population here ranged between 215,000-355,000. Today their number is thought to be 500,000.
